Inside Parliament Street: Progress Continues On Landmark York Development

Artium Construction has welcomed members of the press for an exclusive first look inside one of its flagship developments, inviting journalists onto the Parliament Street site in York as work on the prestigious Mansley aparthotel continues to make strong progress.

Situated opposite Marks & Spencer in the heart of the historic city, the project will see Artium Construction breathe new life into a prominent 19th-century building, transforming it into 19 luxury self-catering apartments across 23 bedrooms for Mansley Serviced Apartments. The finished property will also include 4,000 sq ft of retail space at ground and basement level.

While much of the activity remains hidden behind a live shopfront, the interior transformation is now well underway.

For Garry Shaw, Commercial Director at Artium Construction, opening the doors to the media was an opportunity to showcase not only the building itself, but also the complexity involved in delivering a project in one of York's busiest locations.

"This is a brilliant building in one of the best locations in York, and we wanted the press to see for themselves what's involved in bringing a scheme like this back to life," he said.

"It's not a straightforward job. You're working behind a live shopfront in the middle of one of the busiest streets in the city and every decision has to take that into account. But that's the challenge our team thrives on and we're delighted with how things are progressing."

With around 10,000 people passing the site every day, the development has sparked plenty of curiosity among neighbouring businesses and members of the public, many keen to see what is taking shape behind the façade.

"We've made excellent headway in a relatively short space of time," added Garry.

"What people see from the outside is only part of the story. As we work our way through the building, you can really appreciate the scale of what's being created. When we complete in spring 2027, we'll have delivered something that both Artium and York can be proud of."

Once complete, the scheme will add York to Mansley's award-winning portfolio of premium serviced apartments, which already includes iconic locations in London, Edinburgh, Inverness and Cheltenham.

For Artium Construction, Parliament Street represents more than a project. It reflects the business' growing reputation for delivering complex refurbishment schemes where heritage, logistics and quality merge together seamlessly. In a city renowned for its history, the opportunity to breathe new life into one of its most prominent buildings is one the team is proud to be part of.
