We recognise our responsibility to minimise the environmental impact of our activities, support sustainable construction practices, and contribute positively to the communities in which we operate.

We aim to continually improve our environmental and sustainability performance through effective management, compliance with legislation, responsible procurement, waste reduction, energy efficiency, and collaboration with our employees, clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and stakeholders.

This policy applies to all employees, subcontractors, suppliers, and activities undertaken by Artium Construction.

Environmental and Sustainability Commitments

Energy & Carbon Reduction

Artium Construction will:

  • Monitor and seek to reduce fuel and energy consumption across offices, vehicles, plant, and site operations. 
  • Promote energy efficient working practices including switching off unused equipment and lighting. 
  • Purchase energy efficient equipment and appliances wherever practicable. 
  • Encourage the use of low emission vehicles, shared transport, and efficient route planning. 
  • Consider renewable energy solutions and sustainable technologies where suitable. 
  • Seek opportunities to measure and reduce our carbon footprint. 

 

Sustainable Travel & Transport

Where reasonably practicable, we will:

  • Encourage walking, cycling, car sharing, and public transport for business travel. 
  • Reduce unnecessary travel through the use of video conferencing, telephone meetings, and digital collaboration tools. 
  • Plan meetings and site visits efficiently to minimise journeys. 
  • Maintain company vehicles and plant to maximise fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. 
  • Avoid unnecessary engine idling on sites and at offices. 

Waste Management

Artium Construction is committed to applying the principles of:

To achieve this we will:

  • Minimise waste generated from construction and office activities. 
  • Segregate waste streams on site wherever practicable. 
  • Reuse materials where safe and feasible. 
  • Ensure waste is disposed of responsibly through licensed waste carriers and facilities. 
  • Promote recycling of paper, plastics, metals, timber, cardboard, and other recyclable materials. 
  • Monitor waste generation and seek continual improvement in waste reduction performance. 

Sustainable Procurement

We will:

  • Source materials responsibly and consider environmental impacts during procurement. 
  • Where practicable, select suppliers and subcontractors that demonstrate good environmental and sustainability practices. 
  • Consider the use of recycled, recyclable, low-carbon, locally sourced, and sustainably certified materials. 
  • Encourage suppliers and subcontractors to minimise packaging and reduce waste. 
  • Promote ethical and sustainable supply chain practices. 

Pollution Prevention & Environmental Protection

Artium Construction will:

  • Take appropriate measures to prevent pollution to land, air, and water. 
  • Control dust, noise, vibration, and emissions generated by our operations. 
  • Ensure hazardous substances are stored, used, and disposed of safely. 
  • Maintain spill response procedures and appropriate spill containment equipment on sites. 
  • Protect watercourses, drainage systems, wildlife habitats, and surrounding environments during works. 
  • Minimise environmental nuisance to neighbours, clients, and the public. 

Biodiversity & Ecology

Where relevant to our works, we will:

  • Consider ecological impacts during planning and delivery of projects. 
  • Protect existing habitats, trees, and wildlife. 
  • Comply with ecological and environmental constraints identified within project documentation. 
  • Support biodiversity enhancement opportunities where reasonably practicable. 

Office Sustainability

Artium Construction will:

  • Minimise paper usage through digital documentation and electronic communication. 
  • Recycle office waste wherever facilities are available. 
  • Reduce energy and water consumption within office environments. 
  • Purchase environmentally responsible office supplies where feasible. 
  • Reuse or recycle redundant IT equipment and office furniture responsibly. 

Employees & Training

We will:

This Sustainability Policy will be:

Senior management are responsible for ensuring this policy is implemented and maintained throughout the business.
